Pros of Transferring a Domain

By transferring your domain, you adopt a one-stop-shop approach, making things easier for yourself. You don't need to remember your password for your third-party domain provider account, and you can contact Shopify directly for help with the domain instead of the third-party host.

Cons of Transferring a Domain

There are a couple of limitations to be aware of when transferring a domain:

• Your domain must have been registered more than 60 days ago to be eligible for transfer.
• Check if your domain is eligible for transfer here.
• When you transfer your domain, you need to pay to register it with Shopify for 12 months. The 12 months are added to your domain's current expiry date. For example, if your third-party domain expires in 6 months, it will expire in 18 months once you transfer it to Shopify.
